Greetings Sunshine Family,

Hope all is well! In this difficult and uncertain time, your well-being is always in our heart and mind.  On May 4th, Governor Newsom announced Phase 2 of re-opening in State of California. Schools and daycares are classified as Phase 2 businesses. However, as of May 15th, Santa Clara County Public Health Department (SCCPH) has not released opening guidance for schools and daycares yet. While we wait for further announcement, Sunshine School Directors and Staffs have started to prepare and modify our facilities and programs to meet CDC and Licensing guidance for reopening. Such modifications include but are not limited to the following:

  • Temperature checks for staffs and students during arrival and throughout the day
  • Health questions for all staffs and students during arrival
  • Class conducted in a “stable” group of 12 students or less. “Stable” means the same teacher and 12 or fewer children are in the same group each day. Children shall not change from one group to another.
  • Activities are planned to offer more opportunity for individual play and solo activities, such as drawing, coloring, cutting, puzzles, and other manipulatives.
  • All staff are required to wear face masks.  We strongly recommend parents to wear face masks as well during drop-off and pick-up.
  • No classroom visitors
  • Social distancing in place
  • Children nap six feet apart (Pre-school)
  • No family-style dining
  • Use of our online payment system to prevent paper transactions
  • Constant handwashing and use of hand sanitizer
  • Constant disinfecting of high traffic area, furniture and equipment
  • Safe Sign-in and Sign-out procedures. Parents, please bring your own pen.
  • We are waiting for CDC guidance regarding our Summer program. As of this moment, we plan to operate our Summer program like a full day After School program. Most of our field trip venues have been canceled, but we will provide crucial opportunities for our children to learn, grow, socialize, and experiment.

We will provide our Sunshine Safety Standard Operating Procedure Guide on our subsequent newsletters. Many Bay Area daycares anticipate re-opening announcement from SCCPH by Mid-May, but with abundance of caution, most daycares will open June 1st.  This is the timeline Sunshine School plans to follow unless SCCPH announces a later opening date. As part of our re-opening effort, please help us plan our teacher-to-student ratio by replying to this email with the following information:

Parent’s Name:
Parent’s Email:
Child’s Name:
Location/Program (Emerald, Halgrim, Ruskin/Turlock, Sierra, Vinci Park, or Summer Program):
Date Child will return to Sunshine School:

In addition, as safety of our students, staffs, and families is our primary concern, we would be grateful if you are able to donate the following items to help us safe guard our program and facility:

  • Adult and children surgical facemasks
  • Disinfecting wipes
  • Hand sanitizers
  • Non-contact forehead thermometers
  • Gloves

Thank you very much for your support. We will keep monitoring announcements from the State of California and SCCPH for additional instructions. We look forward to seeing you all soon. Until then, please stay healthy and safe! Cheers!
