Greetings Sunshine Family,

At this time we would like to relay the following information from the Berryessa Union School District:

"Dear Berryessa Community,

We would like to inform you of the latest information available regarding school building closures and distance learning in light of Governor Gavin Newsom‘s press conference today and recent comments made by State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond.

At this time, it has been decided that distance learning will continue through the end of this school year, and our students will not be physically returning to school for 2019-20. Given the growing pandemic that we are facing, this is the best decision for the safety of our students, families, staff and community. Below, we have included the full letter from the Santa Clara County Office of Education.

As we all process this sobering news, it is important that we acknowledge the challenges that this public health crisis has created. Parents are working from home, managing the financial impacts of the crisis, and additionally, they are trying to homeschool their children. This is extremely difficult, and we understand how you may be feeling. Many of our teachers, support staff and administration are also in the same predicament, as they manage their children and families while working remotely from home. We miss the many ways that a school community typically interacts and supports one another. However, we are experiencing an unprecedented time where we must continue to physically social distance ourselves from one another.

Despite these challenges, please know that our dedicated and caring BUSD team is here to support our students, families, and staff during this time. We are continuing to work around the clock to carry our mission forward as educators and service providers. We are learning new ways to stay in contact and check-in, and we look forward to a future time when we can safely gather again. More information will be coming to you soon as we continue to evolve our instruction and resources for students and families, including mental health support, to help adjust to our new circumstances.

In closing, the Berryessa Union Board of Trustees and I would like to thank everyone for your patience, collaboration and flexibility as we work through this unprecedented situation. Your efforts to put your best forward will serve our students, families and communities well!

We are all in this together! Let’s continue to support one another with kindness and grace. We will get through this and be a much stronger district community for it."
